Northern Hills Golf Course is located in northwest Rochester just southwest
of Walmart North.

Admission Fee
There is no admission fee for spectators.
Coaches Meeting
There will be a coaches' meeting at 3:00 PM by the golf course clubhouse.
Packets should be picked up from the restaurant area of the golf course clubhouse.
Race Times
The boys race will begin at 3:50 PM and the girls race at 4:45 PM.
Teams must report to the starting line ten minutes prior to the
scheduled starting time.
Course
The course is grass with potentially short sections of
blacktop, wooden/concrete bridges, dirt, and gravel. The course will be marked
by a white line throughout the entire route. In addition, flags
and cones will be used to mark the course. Runners are to stay
on the white line side of the cones. A course judge will precede the
runners in a cart to insure that runners do not get off the course.
Signs will indicate the 800, 1600 and 3200
meter points and the 800 and 400 meters to go points on the course.
All teams will receive two copies of the course map on the day of the meet.
Walking the Course
The course will be available on the day of the meet after 2:00 p.m. for
teams to walk or jog. The course WILL NOT be available before
the day of the meet. No teams or individuals are allowed on the course
before 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meet. Runners and/or teams will be
subject to disqualification for violation of this rule.
Equipment
- Shoes must be worn.
- Each participant shall wear the same color and design school uniform
(jersey and trunks).
- Any visible shirt worn under the jersey and any visible
apparel worn under the shorts must be unadorned (small
manufacturers logo is acceptable) and of a single color but need
not be the same color under each item of apparel. As an example,
a long-sleeve shirt under the jersey does not have to be the same
color as the tights under the shorts. No trim or piping may be
visible.
- When visible apparel is worn under the jersey or the trunks (below the knee) by
more than one team member, that apparel must be the same color for all team members.
Note that apparel worn under the trunks that does not extend past the knee does
not have to be the same color for all team members.
- Hats and gloves do not have to be matching.
- Bandanas, baseball hats, do-rags, and scarves may not be worn.
- The prohibition of wearing jewelry has been removed from the rules for cross country competition.
- Any type of watch (including GPS) may be worn.
- Coaches need to be aware of the uniform rules in the NFHS rules book.
Facilities
- T-shirts will be sold in the clubhouse.
- No dressing rooms will be available.
- Portable toilets will be provided.
- Water will be provided at the finish line.
- Runners are encouraged to bring their own water, other liquids, or food for use before
and after the competition.
- Please stay off all greens and tees while on the golf course.
- Make sure all trash is picked up around your team's camp area.
T-Shirts
Commemorative section championship long-sleeve T-Shirts will be available at the
cross country meet. They will be available in sizes S - XL for $15.00.
Rules of Conduct and Special Considerations
- A runner will be disqualified if a coach or other individual runs
with him or makes physical contact with her/him.
- No splits may be provided to any runner except by meet officials.
- Nothing may be passed to a runner during the race - such as a
drink or inhaler. If a runner requires an inhaler, they need to
carry it with them during the race. In addition, a doctor's note
explaining the use of the inhaler must be presented to the meet
manager.
- No frisbees, footballs, soccer balls, etc. are allowed on the golf course.
Athletes or spectators using these items cause a distraction at the section meet
and could potentially cause an injury.
- Artificial noise makers (i.e. portable speakers, megaphones, cowbells, whistles, etc.) are not allowed.
- No wireless communications between coaches on the course is allowed.
- Only personnel designated by the meet manager are permitted in the
chute area.
- Please stay off the greens.
- Teams are permitted to walk/jog the course after 2 PM on the day of
the meet.
- No bicycles are allowed on the course.
Race Procedures
- All runners must start from their assigned team box at the starting line.
- Make sure the numbers are clearly visible on the front of the shirt.
- Runners are to stay on the white line side of any cones placed on the course.
- If a runner leaves the starting line before the starting signal is given,
they are disqualified from the race.
- A second pistol shot or whistle will signal a restart.
- A runner will be disqualified if a coach or other individual runs with
him or makes physical contact with him.
- Split times will be given at the 1600 and 3200 meter marks.
- Stay in order when you reach the chute and pass through the chute as
quickly as possible.
- A cart with medical personnel will follow behind the field. If a runner requires
medical attention during the race, they should stop and wait for the medical cart
to arrive.

Results will be available on the internet at:
Team and individual results will be passed out to the coaches following
the awards ceremony.
Complete results will be available on the Section 1A cross
country web pages. If everything goes well, the results should be
available on the web site by Friday morning. The raceberryjam site
will contain results for most sections of the state as they are sent in.
Advancement to State Meet
The 1st and 2nd place teams advance to the state meet.
The first eight individual finishers who are not members of the first and second place
qualifying teams advance to the state meet.
All runners who advance to the state meet either as an individual or as a member of a team
are eligible for individual awards at the state meet.
If five or more members from the same team qualify for state as individuals, they will compete as
individuals and will not receive a team score.
The state meet will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN.

Awards
As soon as possible following the last race, individual and team award
presentations will be made in the area by the clubhouse.
- First Place Team: Team trophy and medals for up to nine
individuals listed on the section meet entry form.
- Second Place Team: Team trophy and medals for up to nine
individuals listed on the section meet entry form.
- Individual Medals: First eight finishers plus any individual qualifier who does not finish in the first eight places.
Substitution for the State Meet
- Individuals: No substitution is allowed.
- Teams: After an official squad for a section tournament in cross
country has been certified to the governing committee of that tournament,
substitutions for that tournament and for the state tournament are not
permitted except as specified in the General Information section of the
MSHSL manual. Any individual participating in the section or state meets must
be listed among the nine individuals on the team registration card.
